Take Advantage of the Rain - Mulch Your Garden NOW.

Coastal Landscape Supplies Sep 13 2013

At last we have enjoyed some badly needed rain on the Sunshine Coast.

That makes NOW the perfect time to lock in that precious moisture and prepare your garden for the coming warmer months.

In order to ensure best results from your garden preparation, we suggest you take the following steps.

  • Firstly, make sure that you thoroughly weed the area. As we have had some moisture over the past couple of days, the weeds should pull out nice and easily.
  • Next, you will want to return some nutrients back into the soil with a high quality compost such as a mushroom compost. This will really give your new plantings (or existing plants) a real boost. In combination with the moisture, you will almost be able to watch your garden growing before your eyes!
  • After you have removed the weeds (and their root systems), lay down a covering of weed mat. This will severely restrict future weed growth. And let's face it, no-one wants to spend their relaxation time breaking their back to continually weed the garden.
  • Once these steps have been completed, you can go ahead and mulch the garden. At Coastal, we have 10 different mulches to choose from, including white ant resistant mulch (particularly good for those living in the Buderim area), mulches that will break down over time and release extra nutrients into the soil slowly (excellent for veggies), and decorative and fragrant chip.
