Hoop Pine Bark clings to sloping sites

2 min read

We have recently had a huge truck and dog load of 1" Hoop Pine bark delivered from one of our favourite local suppliers. This is a product that we really love, because it is such a terrifically easy product to work with, and it is so incredibly versatile. There are just so many places where it is the perfect choice to mulch garden beds.

hoop-pine-bark-buderimAs you can see, Hoop Pine bark has a deep brown colour and a thick, curly texture. It looks very rich and luxurious when applied to garden beds. Because of its curly structure, Hoop Pine bark is renowned for its ability to cling on to sloping terrain, its resistance to high winds, its ability to absorb and retain moisture and its longevity. All of these features give it extremely low maintenance properties. It is very popular for use on sloping sites and raised gardens, domestic gardens and high class resorts, office blocks, convention centres, new estates etc.

The product is so named because it is produced in strips approximately 1" wide. It is a by-product of the timber milling industry, where the pine timber is used for building and furniture making. The bark is waste product that has been converted into a very handy, usable garden material.

Generally, there is a small amount of Hoop fines mixed in to the bark, making it an ideal product to keep the weeds at bay, retain moisture and eventually break down and add precious nutrients to the soil. Happy days!

Installation should be to a depth of 100mm to 150mm. We have this fabulous product on special at the moment (even though it is generally not easy to get hold of - but like we said, we have a LOT of it in stock!).
